YBhg. Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, Secretary General Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry Malaysia (MITI) who officiated the event shared,” This event signifies the commencement of an exciting journey in the realm of Asian fashion. It is worth noting that the fashion industry in Asia is experiencing a remarkable surge. Projections indicate that the Asia-Pacific fashion accessories market will maintain a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.21% in the upcoming five years. This substantial expansion is primarily driven by increasing disposable incomes and a robust desire for fashion and luxury products in the region.
Investing in the Asian fashion industry means tapping into a vast consumer base and benefiting from a highly skilled workforce. The region boasts talented designers, artisans, and craftsmen who blend traditional expertise with modern design sensibilities.
The Government is committed to foster innovation and technology adoption, with the intent for Malaysia to emerge as a global leader in industrial development, extend the domestic linkages to create wealth across the nation from manufacturing activities as well as strengthen its position in the global value chain. In addition to these aspirations, we would also like to see our manufacturing sector make that transition to more sustainable production and practices.
Against this background, the Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry Malaysia (MITI) has formulated the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 which will be launched very soon by YAB Prime Minister of Malaysia. The New IMP is designed to address inherent challenges in the manufacturing sector as well as external headwinds and uncertainties which include global geopolitical sentiments, rapid technological advancements, and the rising new requirements set by ESG-sensitive markets.
The NIMP 2030 is mandated to deliberate on key issues such as enhancing the nation’s economic complexity, aggressive push for automation and digitalisation, creating the right ecosystems for targeted industries, as well as building SMEs’ capacity for embracing environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles to prepare them for global market demands. The jewellery and fashion industry will also benefit from the NIMP as we transform the manufacturing sector to achieve a greaterdegree of complexity and sophistication in product development.
The inaugural AJHA sets the stage for exciting opportunities in the Asian fashion industry. With a booming consumer market, rapid response in adopting technological advancements and increasing commitment to sustainability, Asia presents an attractive investment destination for this industry segment.
Asia's fashion industry is also leveraging technology to transform the way we design, produce, and consume fashion. Virtual reality, augmented reality, 3D printing, and robotics are revolutionizing the industry, allowing Asian fashion companies to create personalized, sustainable, and efficient solutions.
Now that we have formed a strong production base, we need to ensure these products can reach as many markets as possible. Digital platforms, e-commerce, and social media have redefined how fashion brands connect with consumers in Asia. These digital tools have democratized fashion and expanded market opportunities for Asian fashion companies.
I strongly believe that the jewellery and high-end fashion industry have great potential that lies within the region and we should harness this together to shape a market where fashion reflects our diverse identities.”
